The celebrations begin with a special meditation on Thursday evening, January 30, 2014. A special commemoration function was held in the afternoon of January 31, 2014, which was attended by about 400 devotees. The function commenced with bhajans, followed by reminiscences of some senior devotees who had met Daya Mataji personally on several occasions. Swami Ishwarananda then gave a talk on Sri Sri Daya Mata, relating many incidents from her sublime life which gave a glimpse of her compassionate & understanding nature, and of the divinity that was reflected in her. This was followed by an hour long bhajan recital by Smt. Surabhi Ranjan, a long time YSS devotee who had composed & set to tune special bhajans. Daya Mataji had heard these bhajans during her lifetime, and had deeply appreciated the spirit of devotion & love behind this offering of songs. All those who attended the programme commented on the pervasive atmosphere of love & blessings that was palpable throughout the function. As part of charitable activities, fruits & sweets were distributed to students of Paramahansa Yogananda Swarna Bal Vatika, a coaching school for poor children run by a YSS devotee.
